The fund, developed in partnership with Infrastructure Capital Advisors, a US boutique with over $2 billion in assets under management, marks the second product launched by the US firm in Europe via the HANetf platform.
The fund’s structure
The ETF aims to track the VettaFi Nuclear Renaissance Index, offering exposure to global companies active in four segments of the nuclear supply chain: fuels, construction and services, advanced reactors and utilities. The total expense ratio (TER) is set at 0.85%.
Securities are selected through a quantitative and qualitative process that identifies the most significant players in the context of renewed interest in nuclear energy. The fund stands out for its coverage of the sector’s entire lifecycle, from uranium producers to companies developing small modular reactors (SMRs).
The context: why nuclear is back in the spotlight
Global energy demand is accelerating, driven by the electrification of consumption, the development of infrastructure for artificial intelligence and increased cooling requirements. Against this backdrop, nuclear power is re-establishing itself as a strategic component of future electricity systems: it guarantees continuous and predictable generation, near-zero emissions during power generation and greater operational stability compared to intermittent renewable sources.
Geopolitical developments – in particular the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the conflict in the Strait of Hormuz – have refocused attention on energy security. The United States has committed to quadrupling nuclear capacity from 100 GW to 400 GW by 2050, citing national security as a key reason for the plan. The Trump administration signed executive orders in May 2025 to accelerate the development of advanced nuclear technologies, reform the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and reinvigorate the sector’s industrial base.
Of particular interest are small modular reactors (SMRs), small-scale reactors that could power data centres and generate energy for industrial use. Although still in the development phase, they are attracting growing attention due to their potential for factory production, replicability and potential advantages in terms of cost and efficiency. Their small size also allows them to be installed at decommissioned coal-fired power stations or underground, mitigating risks from attacks or natural disasters.
Hector McNeil, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of HANetf, said: “We are proud to launch the NUKZ ETF at a time when nuclear power is increasingly recognised as a safe, clean and reliable source of energy, whilst global energy demand is growing. Alongside this, ongoing geopolitical tensions have highlighted the importance of energy security: nuclear power has the potential to provide the security needed to protect against the energy shocks we have witnessed in recent years.”
Jay Hatfield, CEO and CIO of Infrastructure Capital Advisors, added: “In light of geopolitical risks and the current energy crisis in Europe, we believe this is an opportune moment for global investors to increase their exposure to real assets and energy investments. We are delighted to partner with HANetf to offer an investment solution that can also help facilitate the development of clean energy through a diversified portfolio of energy and infrastructure-related companies.”
