Three actively managed equity ETFs from the Allianz Smart Active range begin trading in London, with total expense ratios between 0.20% and 0.25%
The three funds are part of the Allianz Smart Active ETF range and cover European, US and global developed-market equities. The ETFs are sub-funds of Allianz Global Investors ETF ICAV, an Irish-domiciled umbrella structure, and follow a systematic, rules-based active investment process. Total expense ratios (TER) range from 0.20% to 0.25%.
The Three ETFs Admitted to Trading on LSE
The three sub-funds admitted to trading are all accumulating share classes:
Allianz Smart Europe Equity Active UCITS ETF – EUR Acc. ISIN IE000519M2U5. TER 0.25%. Invests in European equities. Reference benchmark: MSCI Europe Total Return Net (EUR).
Allianz Smart US Equity Active UCITS ETF – USD Acc. ISIN IE000LST78X7. TER 0.20%. Invests in US equities. Reference benchmark: S&P 500 Total Return Net.
Allianz Smart Global Equity Active UCITS ETF – USD Acc. ISIN IE000NZURBQ4. TER 0.25%. Invests in global developed-market equities. Reference benchmark: MSCI World Total Return Net (USD).
On LSE’s Prices and Markets tool, the admissions on 30 July 2026 correspond to five separate trading lines, quoted in both sterling and US dollars for the dual-currency-denominated funds. (Editorial note: exact ticker-to-ISIN mapping should be confirmed with AllianzGI or LSE before publication — see notes below.)
How the Smart Active Range’s Active Management Works
The three ETFs are actively managed. Each fund invests at least 70% of net assets in equities and equity-related instruments listed or traded on regulated markets, within its respective geographic universe. The portfolio manager can concentrate on companies of a particular size or maintain broad exposure, depending on market conditions.
The selection process is systematic and rules-based. Individual stocks are analysed and compared against peer companies by sector, geography or other criteria, and selected according to their relative attractiveness as measured by proprietary investment signals.
According to the issuer’s documentation, the three equity strategies aim for low tracking error against their benchmarks, daily liquidity and transparent rules, with the objective of generating consistent alpha.
Portfolio Limits and Instruments Used
Alongside their core equity holdings, the three funds have accessory investment limits. Emerging-market exposure differs between funds:
Up to 10% of net assets in emerging-market equities for the Europe and Global sub-funds.
Up to 20% for the US sub-fund.
The remaining limits are common to all three ETFs. Each fund may invest up to 15% in convertible bonds, with a sub-limit of 10% for contingent convertibles (CoCo bonds), and up to 10% in eligible collective investment undertakings, including money market funds. For liquidity management, each fund may hold up to 25% in money market instruments, time deposits and demand deposits (the latter capped at 20%), with a 10% limit for money market funds.
The funds may use financial derivative instruments, including equity index futures and currency forwards or futures, for efficient portfolio management, hedging and investment purposes.
Benchmark Indices
Each sub-fund references a benchmark used for comparison purposes only. The European fund is measured against the MSCI Europe Total Return Net (EUR), the US fund against the S&P 500 Total Return Net, and the global fund against the MSCI World Total Return Net (USD).
As these are actively managed funds, the issuer states that fund performance and benchmark performance are expected to differ. The index does not constrain portfolio composition.
AllianzGI’s Entry into Active ETFs in Europe
The three equity sub-funds are part of the Allianz Smart Active ETF range, through which AllianzGI enters the European active ETF market for the first time. The firm had already launched similar products in Asia, debuting in Taiwan in 2025.
The range comprises five strategies in total: three equity strategies (Europe, US, global) and two fixed income strategies, including an investment-grade credit strategy called Smart Corporate Bond Active. Distribution initially targets several European markets through a single cross-border sales platform.
Commenting on the range’s launch, Tobias Pross, CEO at AllianzGI, said: “The value of active management has never been more apparent.” Pross linked the choice of an active ETF structure to the ability to combine the benefits of active management with intraday trading and transparency.
The Active ETF Market in Europe
AllianzGI’s entry comes during a period of expansion for the segment. According to estimates from Waystone, more than 20 new issuers are expected to enter the European UCITS market in 2026, alongside more than 200 new active ETFs — a 50% increase compared with 2025.
Active ETFs combine the listed, tradable structure of an ETF with a stock-selection process managed by a portfolio manager. They remain subject to equity market volatility, with the possibility of capital losses.
Conclusions
Following admission to trading on 30 July 2026, three actively managed equity ETFs from AllianzGI are tradable on the London Stock Exchange. The funds cover European, US and global equities, with TERs from 0.20% to 0.25% and a systematic selection process.
The listing is part of a multi-year programme through which AllianzGI is expanding its active ETF offering in Europe. For UK-based investors, it adds to the number of active equity ETFs available on LSE.
