ETFGI reports that assets invested in ETFs industry in Europe gathered net inflows of US$8.95 billion in August

ETFGI, a leading independent research and consultancy firm covering trends in the global ETFs ecosystem, reported today that the ETFs industry in Europe gathered net inflows of US$8.95 billion in August. The ETFs industry in Europe gathered net inflows of US$8.95 billion during August, bringing year-to-date net inflows to US$96.05 billion. Year-to-date, assets have increased 16.9% YTD in 2023, going from $1.42 trillion at end of 2022 to $1.66 trillion, according to ETFGI’s August 2023 European ETFs and ETPs industry landscape insights report. (All dollar values in USD unless otherwise noted.)

“The S&P 500 decreased by 1.59% in August but is up by 18.73% YTD in 2023. Developed markets excluding the US decreased by 3.92% in August but are up 10.58% YTD in 2023. Netherlands (down 9.59%) and Hong Kong (down 9.13%) saw the largest decreases amongst the developed markets in August. Emerging markets decreased by 5.08% during August but are up 5.44% YTD in 2023. Colombia (down 12.70%) and Pakistan (down 11.09%) saw the largest decreases amongst emerging markets in August.” According to Deborah Fuhr, managing partner, founder, and owner of ETFGI.
ETFs industry in Europe asset growth as at the end of August
At the end of August 2023, the ETFs industry in Europe had 2,950 products, with 12,046 listings, assets of $1.66 Tn, from 101 providers on listed on 29 exchanges in 24 countries.
During August, ETFs gathered net inflows to US$8.95 billion. Equity ETFs gathered net inflows of $5.25 Bn during the month, bringing YTD net inflows to $48.83 Bn, higher than the $44.33 Bn in net inflows YTD in 2022. Fixed income ETFs reported net inflows of $2.97 Bn during August, bringing YTD net inflows to $44.81 Bn, higher than the $20.86 Bn in net inflows YTD in 2022. Commodities ETFs/ETPs reported net outflows of $169 Mn during August, bringing YTD net outflows to $2.82 Bn, much lower than the $519 Mn in net outflows YTD in 2022. Active ETFs attracted net inflows of $1.04 Bn during August, gathering YTD net inflows of $5.25 Bn, much higher than the $872 Mn in net inflows YTD in 2022.
Substantial inflows can be attributed to the top 20 ETFs by net new assets, which collectively gathered $9.25 Bn during August. iShares Core S&P 500 UCITS ETF – Acc (CSSPX SW) gathered $1.05 Bn, the largest individual net inflow.
