The fund is a sub-fund of Xtrackers (IE) plc, domiciled in Ireland. The management company is DWS Investment S.A. The fund currency is the US dollar.

An existing fund with a new trading line

The fund itself is not new. It was launched on 13 December 2022 as part of DWS’s range of ETFs aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

DWS announced the range on 23 January 2023. At that date, the SDG 11 fund was already listed on Xetra, SIX Swiss Exchange and the London Stock Exchange under the tickers XG11 and XD11. The original range covered six individual goals (SDG 3, 6, 7, 9, 11 and 12) and one multi-goal fund. All seven products carried a TER of 0.35%.

XROB is therefore an additional line on the London market. It uses a different settlement model from the existing listings.

Euroclear Bank settlement for the SDG 11 ETF

The LSE classifies XROB under its Euroclear Bank settlement trading service. Under this model, ETF trades settle at an international central securities depository (ICSD), Euroclear Bank, rather than at a national depository.

Euroclear states that its ICSD model identifies an ETF with a single ISIN regardless of market or currency. It also states that its settlement window covers Asian, European and US trading hours. For issuers and market makers, the stated aim is to centralise settlement of ETFs that trade on several exchanges and reduce realignments between depositories.

How the SDG 11 index is built

The MSCI ACWI IMI SDG 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities Select Index has the following key features:

large, medium and small-capitalisation companies in developed and emerging markets;

companies associated with a positive contribution to SDG 11 of the UN 2030 Agenda: making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable;

companies associated with the theme of smart solutions for urban infrastructure;

ESG exclusions;

a semi-annual review, with rebalancing at least quarterly.

The starting universe is the MSCI ACWI Investable Market Index. In its 2023 launch announcement, DWS listed pollution prevention, smart infrastructure and buildings, and zero-emission vehicles as examples of themes defined for SDG 11.

DWS also stated that companies whose activities conflict with any of the 17 goals are excluded. The selection applies the MSCI ESG Screened methodology, which filters out companies above revenue thresholds in activities such as coal, tobacco and conventional weapons.

MSCI launched the index on 3 June 2022. Data before that date are back-tested.

Fund size and costs

The fund remains small. The LSE page shows assets under management of 4.05 million in the line’s traded currency, and a net asset value of USD 37.89 per share as at 26 October 2026.

The ongoing charge is 0.35% a year, in line with the other funds in the Xtrackers SDG range. Income is reinvested.

Points for investors to consider

Currency: the fund’s base currency is the US dollar and its holdings are global. The XROB line trades in sterling, and the fund is not currency-hedged. Returns for UK investors depend on exchange-rate movements.

Thematic concentration: the index selects a limited number of companies tied to a single goal. Its returns can differ widely from a broad global equity index, as the 2024 figures show.

Settlement model: investors and intermediaries should check that their broker supports trading and holding ETFs on the Euroclear Bank settlement service.

Conclusions

The new XROB line adds a sterling-traded, Euroclear-settled version of an existing Xtrackers fund to the London market. The product, the index and the 0.35% fee are unchanged. The fund gives exposure to global companies linked to SDG 11 and urban infrastructure themes.
