The WisdomTree Strategic Metals UCITS ETF – GBP Hedged began trading on 26 November 2025.
The fund is designed to track the performance of the WisdomTree Energy Transition Metals Commodity UCITS Index TR. This index is composed of a basket of metals critical to the shift towards low-carbon energy. The ETF has a Total Expense Ratio (TER) of 0.55%.
The fund’s objective is to provide investors with exposure to commodities like copper, nickel, lithium, and cobalt. These metals are used in electric vehicles, energy storage systems, and infrastructure for solar, wind, and hydrogen power.
A key feature of this share class is its currency hedging strategy. The fund uses currency forward contracts to minimise the effect of exchange rate fluctuations between the US dollar, in which the commodities are typically priced, and the British pound. This aims to isolate the commodity returns for GBP-based investors.
The index methodology is research-driven. Analysts specialising in the energy transition sector select and weight the metals within the basket. The weighting strategy considers projected demand from clean energy technologies alongside factors of market supply and demand.
The fund is structured to be UCITS compliant, meeting EU regulatory standards for retail investor protection. It offers a route for investors to gain targeted exposure to the raw materials that underpin the global energy transition, while managing currency risk.
