Henry MacLeod, Managing Director and Head of Direct Retail and Digital Wealth International, State Street Investment Management
In his new role, MacLeod will report directly to Matteo Andreetto, Global Head of NextGen Business Development and Digital Wealth. The appointment finalises the leadership structure for the company’s international operations in the digital and retail distribution segment.
Henry MacLeod’s background and new responsibilities
Henry MacLeod joins from BlackRock, where he served as Co-Head of Digital Distribution for the EMEA region. During his time at BlackRock, he oversaw the development of digital wealth management platforms and established operational partnerships with leading European digital investment providers. His work focused on increasing retail distribution via digital channels.
In his new role at State Street Investment Management, MacLeod will coordinate the international Direct Retail and Digital Wealth operations. He will work closely with regional teams to develop partnerships with digital platforms. The operational objective is to integrate digital wealth with the ETF as a Service division and align activities with the company’s NextGen strategy.
The evolution of Digital Wealth and the NextGen strategy
The digital wealth sector is transforming its business model. The market’s initial phase focused on increasing asset volumes and expanding distribution. The current phase requires control of the value chain. Digital platforms aim to generate recurring revenue streams, retain the economic value generated by products, and offer personalised investment proposals to their clients.
State Street Investment Management’s NextGen strategy provides operational support across the entire value chain. The company’s technical and operational offering includes:
ETF design and management.
Capital markets and order execution.
Custody and servicing.
Foreign exchange (FX) expertise.
ETF-as-a-Service platform.
These capabilities enable wealth management firms and digital platform developers to build integrated and scalable investment solutions, combining distribution with the development of proprietary products.
Matteo Andreetto, Global Head of NextGen Business Development and Digital Wealth at State Street Investment Management, commented on the appointment:
“The sector is changing, and changing rapidly. Platforms are no longer simply seeking access to products; they want the ability to build genuine investment solutions and, as a result, develop deeper relationships with their clients. In this context, Henry’s appointment comes at the ideal time. His experience in developing partnerships with some of Europe’s leading digital investment platforms will be crucial to accelerating our international Direct Retail and Digital Wealth strategy and continuing to position State Street Investment Management as the partner of choice for the new generation of wealth management platforms.”
MacLeod’s appointment forms part of State Street Investment Management’s international expansion plan in the B2B2C segment, confirming the company’s strategic focus on providing infrastructure support for digital wealth management platforms.
