The US group has entrusted a former BlackRock executive with leading its ETF activities in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, at a time of growing demand for active ETFs.

Brickman will be responsible for T. Rowe Price’s ETF operations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, at a time of growing demand for active ETFs. He will report to Tim Coyne, the group’s Head of ETFs.

The role and responsibilities

Brickman will be based in London and will work across distribution, product, marketing, capital markets and investments, with the aim of supporting the group’s ETF initiatives.

He will also lead training, education and client engagement activities relating to ETFs. His remit includes developing the firm’s capabilities in this sector and supporting growth across the region.

Coyne Timothy T. Rowe PriceTimothy Coyne, Head of ETFs at T. Rowe Price linked the appointment to T. Rowe Price’s commitment to building a leading ETF platform, capable of bringing the group’s active management expertise to a wider client base. He noted that Brickman’s appointment comes at a time of growing demand for active ETF strategies and indicated that his leadership and experience will strengthen client support and the firm’s long-term strategic ambitions in the region.

Terry Nataline T. Rowe PriceNataline Terry, Head of EMEA Distribution at T. Rowe Price, described the appointment as an important step for the business in the EMEA region. She added that Brickman’s experience in ETF distribution, capital markets and client relations will be crucial to developing the ETF business in Europe and strengthening relationships with clients and partners.

Andrew Brickman’s career

Brickman joins from BlackRock, where he led ETF distribution activities targeting central banks, sovereign wealth funds and family offices across the EMEA region.

T. Rowe Price’s ETF strategy

T. Rowe Price is a US asset management firm based in Baltimore, listed on the Nasdaq (TROW) and founded in 1937. The group is known for active management and its specialisation in retirement savings. According to the press release, it manages assets totalling $1.80 trillion (equivalent to 1,800 billion).

The company launched its first ETFs in the United States in 2020 and has gradually expanded its range, which now comprises 34 actively managed products, including equity, multi-asset and fixed-income funds.

In Europe, the group is building up its ETF offering. According to ETF Stream, T. Rowe Price filed its first active UCITS ETFs in 2026, ahead of its debut on the European market. Brickman’s appointment forms part of this expansion strategy.

The active ETF market in Europe

The demand for actively managed ETFs cited by T. Rowe Price’s senior management is reflected in market data. According to Morningstar’s ‘Europe Active ETF Trends’ report, by the end of June 2026, assets in actively managed ETFs domiciled in Europe had reached €108.3 billion – almost three times the level at the end of 2023 – following net inflows of €18.8 billion in the first half of the year.

The share of active ETFs in total European ETF inflows rose to 8.8 per cent in the first six months of the year, up from 7.6 per cent in 2025 and 7.3 per cent in 2024.

However, the segment remains modest. Active ETFs account for 3.4 per cent of ETF assets in Europe, compared with around 12.5 per cent in the United States. The market is concentrated: J.P. Morgan is the leading issuer of active ETFs in Europe with a 42.1 per cent share, followed by managers such as Fidelity, iShares and Invesco.

Conclusions

The appointment of Andrew Brickman strengthens T. Rowe Price’s ETF organisation in the EMEA region and marks the firm’s entry into the European market, following years of growth in its US product range.

The group is entering a rapidly expanding segment – which is still smaller than that in the United States – and a European active ETF market already dominated by major competitors. The next steps will involve the actual launch of European products and the development of distribution and education activities, which form part of Brickman’s remit.
